From My Starting Point to My Goal: What Do I Need to Do?
At the moment, my broadcast-related skills are good enough to be the foundation for my program and future career. However, like every ambitious student, I know that these skills need improvement. There are five major skills that I’ve highlighted in my roadmap, and I included the things I need to practice to improve them.
Communication skills, both oral and written, can be improved by training my tongue, recording myself when speaking, and exploring broadcasting writing styles. Doing these would allow me to correct the mistakes that I notice I make, and would help me become a more flexible writer. My technical skills can be improved by exposing myself to equipment so I can learn to manipulate them, editing videos, photos, and audio files, and observing techniques used in TV and radio programs. Doing so expands knowledge that can be used for application. For my interpersonal skills, working in groups and talking to all kinds of people would help me get used to being surrounded by people and coordinating, planning, and working with them. To hone research skills, studying investigative journalism, learning to draft interview questions, and seeking credible sources will be handy in information gathering. And finally, to develop time-management skills, it’s necessary to plan what needs to be done in a day, and to strictly follow the schedule that I made.
It might take years — but hopefully less — before I can reach the fullest potential of my skills. However, as long as I keep moving forward, I know I will get there.
