Pieces of Me

If there’s one thing I have trouble writing about, it’s myself. People are jigsaw puzzles, and maybe this is hard for me because I haven’t found all my pieces yet. The ones I have right now, well, some don’t fit each other because those that connect them are missing. I guess I’ll be sharing my favorite pieces for now.

First piece: I love people. Specifically, I love the people in my life. My family and my friends hold a special and permanent place in my heart.

Second piece: I love learning. I’ve always enjoyed being in the academe. My favorite topics to explore — aside from those in the media and communication field — are philosophy, political science, and social science.

Third piece: I love creating. Whether it’s a short story, a poem, a short film, or a self-portrait, I find that creating is just as rewarding as consuming — if not better, at times. Right now, I’m woking on improving my writing and editing skills.

Fourth piece: I love the arts. Literature, movies, music. These works of art keep me company and add so much to who I am. I create to be like those who create the works I love.

Fifth piece: I love sports. I used to play basketball in high school, and played taekwondo until before the pandemic. Physical activities are just as important as mental stimulation.

Maybe these pieces of this girl named Remy Mae are enough for now. I’m still in the process of connecting the pieces of me that I have, and exploring myself and my environment more to find the others. These pieces of me make up who I was, who I am, and who I will be not just in terms of my personal life but also in my future career. It’s like Michelle Phillips said, “I am a woman of many talents and they’re all just pieces of the puzzle that make me and make my career.”
